Very much like PlayStations of the past, Sony's 1st party IPs have never sold much more than 3-4 million. Can't explain why that is, other than Sony has so many IPs to offer, the userbase is divided up with each franchise, or their IPs mainly appeal to a certain amount of people (save for Gran Turismo). Frankly speaking, hardly of any Sony IP's are doing terrible (besides maybe ModNation Racers, SOCOM, or Motorstorm - and even then, you'd have to know expectations of sorts). With the plethora of IPs they own, that seems like a small price to pay when games like Killzone 3 or LBP2 are guaranteed to hit 2-3 million, Uncharted 3 is guaranteed 3-4, Gran Turismo 5 will keep on leggin' until whenever and so on and so fourth. Between Microsoft & Sony, their IPs don't sell too different from one another (which actually doens't look half bad for Sony considering how many IPs they have versus Microsoft).

So, in a sense, I can understand your sentiments regarding the PS3's software vs hardware ratio, it's just the term "terrible" that I wouldn't use as I doubt it's that bad.

Well put.

I would actually say modnation racers quite successful for Sony. It didn't have a very high budget and sold slightly under a million units. It should have turned good profit. I don't know for sure though.
