The main flaw in this analysis is that no other Nintendo platform has been released at a price where price was a major factor preventing people from buying the system ... While we won't know for sure for a few weeks/months until we've seen the long term effects, being that the system sold out at several local retailers when selling at $200 (with the promised price-drop games), I think price has been a major issue for the 3DS.

" no other Nintendo platform has been released at a price where price was a major factor preventing people from buying the system"

then why did nintendo cut the price on the platforms mentioned? i thought that was what the whole article was about?

If price was a major factor limiting sales why weren't price cuts effective?

Realistically, people were not saying "Man $200 is just way to much to pay for a videogame console, I'm not going to buy the Gamecube, and I'll buy the $300 PS2 instead" ...

The core problems with the N64 and Gamecube was that they arrived to the market too late, the biggest games were already being steadily launched to Sony's platforms which launched 12 to 18 months earlier than Nintendo's systems, and management decisions by Hiroshi Yamauchi alienated third party publishers which kept the game library small and too dependant on Nintendo's game releases. Up until your post, no one has ever suggested that price was a main issue impacting sales of these systems.
