The 3DS library. It didn't have a five star exclusive but neither did the DS. It had Super Mario 64. Neither did the PSP. It had.....I don't know. The PS3 didn't have a killer exclusive until 2008, in my opinion. The PS2, I owned for 8 months with only NBA Street and Red Faction (and I wasn't a fan of FPS's or sports games) to comfort me (thank God for my Dreamcast!).
Think back. How many consoles had system sellers at launch? How many had these amazing libraries? The Nes? The Snes, maybe (Mario World, Pilot Wings, and F-Zero)? Certainly not the Wii, PS1, Xbox, etc. The only totally balanced library I can think of is the Dreamcast.
A good rule of thumb for any console is to wait 6 months to a year before buying it. I didn't get a 360 until 2007, a Wii until early 2008, and a PS3 until mid 2008. I didn't get the PSP until 2009 (and I felt it was miles ahead of the DS). I got a DS at launch and I bought some shitty games (Sprung, Feel the Magic) as a result. I don't know why we're condemning the 3DS so soon. It's a great piece of hardware and it's given me hours of entertainment. I've played Zelda and Streetfighter over 20 hours, each.
For all of the PSV supporters who are so quick to condemn the 3DS, what have you got? The system hasn't released. It hasn't sold a single unit. It hasn't released a single game. You're comparing something that hasn't released and made a lot of promises to something that is here and now. It's like comparing your current girlfriend to the girl your friend is going to hook you up with next week at the club. Your imagination is filling in a lot of the gaps. Maybe the PSV WILL blow the 3DS away but until we have the Vita in our hands (and believe me, I'm going to buy one), we are to quick to pass judgement.
I believe that next year at this time, a lot of people--maybe even me--will be eating a lot of crow. -As for the topic, what does the 3DS price cut mean for the PSV? It means that the PSV is going have to be that much better and offer that much more bang for the buck because the 3DS is now a lot cheaper and packs a lot of power. It's capable of a satisfying console experience as well as a portable gaming experience.
