So were Wii and DS. Yet no new characters unless you count Miis or Nintendogs. However new gaming concepts (with or without a new character) are always welcome. Frankly new characters are hard to raise to the popularity of old existing ones. Look at Prince Fluff who's game was given to Kirby instead.
