I think a lot of this depends on what age you were at the time. Of course, the correct answer is the SNES. At the time, it had:
-Top notch technology
-Amazing third party support
-Innovations on top of innovations (Mouse support, Super Scope, SFX Chip)
-The absolute best games in every genre (except sports but they did have most of what Sega had)

It was Nintendo console at its best and we've never seen that since. N64 suffered software droughts from day one to the day it died (not to mention the outdated cartridge format that pretty much assured Sony would win the gen). Gamecube suffered from lack of third party support and a kiddie image (as well as atrocious design. A purple cube. Seriously?). Wii lacked the processing power to impress when compared to the competition. With the SNES, Nintendo did everything right and those that owned one at the time knew beyond a doubt that they owned the best system on the market, bar none.
