I play FPS's all the time and have played paintball and have no particular desire to play paintball again. It is not the culmination of every shooter fans fantasy's like you are making it out to be. Yes, I find it more fun to just sit on a couch and play games with my friends online.
Also, paintball could be more fun with those features you mentioned, we'll just never know because it isn't realistic.
