What was the difference? I forget, as its been a while since i've played either (Smash Bros is my go-to if i need some pick-up-and-play multiplayer).

In Mario Kart DS you unlock 4 characters and some vehicles, but everyone uses everything. Instead in mario Kart Wii you unlock more characters and in different ways (even with time attack); and the vehicles belong to the characters of the same size, you can't use a small kart with Bowser.
