E3 was in June, Wii U will likely launch November, from the way that adds up, it's 17 months for those developers that were told nothing before E3 - hardly "less than a year".
Add to the fact that not all developers were told so late (at a guess, the ones that made NSMB:Mii and all the other tech demos had some idea of how to program for the console and what it was capable of).
I'm surprised that you would instantly make up some negatives to think about something that Nintendo does. That doesn't sound like you at all Tres.
