The switch to better controls took a lot of tension out of the game, and the change in viewpoint made the game less atmospheric; and, as a result, it stopped being a horror game and became a third person shooter.

It wasn't the controls or the camera that turned Resident Evil into a third person shooter. The large amount of weapons, amunition and enemies did it.
