Sad when OOT in Americas didn't sell as well as it did in Japan, considering Zelda isn't as hot in Japan. Neither did it move as many 3DS units, very close to where Japan hit. I hope Nintendo starts realizing that many still think this is an extension of the DS family and not a new system on its own.

This is 100% right.  As most know I work in gameing retail and this is the biggest problem for the 3DS right now is its marketing and the way it is seen by casual consumers.  Honestly 90% of the customers who ask me about the 3DS simply think its a minor upgrade like the DSi was and always say "I just got a DSi I don't need another upgrade."

Nintendo HAS to do a better job of makeing it clear to the consumer that this a brand new console and not just another DS redisign.  I think the name and makeing it look nearly identical to a DSi was a big mistake for Nintendo, they are directly competeing with themselves now because of it.

Maybe it's not true, but the fact that DS is down YoY way more than how 3DS is selling makes me think there are few people who think 3DS is a restyle and many are waiting for games or a smaller price to buy it. After all after DSi or DSi XL the sales of previous models still sold well, over 150k, while now we had a sharp decline in DS sales, sign that there's people not buying a DS because they KNOW 3DS is a new console and are waiting for a better time to buy it. Sure, it could even be Vita's effect, but I doubt it could be that big now...things could be more positive for Nintendo that we think if many potential DS buyers are in line for a 3DS in the future.
