"I don't think a single person nerd raging about RE: The Mercenaries has even played the game. I'm guessing most don't even currently own a 3DS."

That's a strawman, as it assumes this is based specifically on the game and system, instead of a principle that would apply to any game and any system.

Address the entire post before labeling it a "strawman."(1)

Mercenaries in particular is not a game that makes use of multiple saves unlike regular RE games where the core of the game is a campaign mode. (2)

And frankly, until Capcom releases RE: Revelations, with a single file, no reset save system, the argument is making a pretty broad assumption that ALL future Capcom 3DS games will use the same save system.(3)

This is really only an issue on chip based formats that save data on the game itself, which isn't running any assumptions. It currently means DS or 3DS. (4)

1. You're assuming I'm callikng the whole post a strawman. I only quoted the part that made the strawman comment.

2. It's not about whether the game uses multiple saves, but accommodating multiple players. As for the other RE games, I hope you are calling on 5 for only having one at a time.

3. The point is we want to make sure it doesn't happen, not just assume they will leave it out. It shouldn't have even been in this game, as it takes choices away from the gamer for no reason.

4. That and the upcoming Vita. And it's fortunate that current disc systems allow access to save files. That had better not change.

You do understand how the game is actually structured, right? The game save file in Mercenaries is little more than a Top Score list in an arcade style game. Whether the levels are played in sequence if someone wants to skip around on an "unlocked" game card really has no bearing on the overall experience since there is no story progression in this game at all. The later levels/challenges when unlocked are simply harder to complete with a higher ranking. It really is a pretty shallow game.

If Capcom uses the same save system for RE:Revelations, making it more or less impossible (without some sort of creative player ID system saved on one file) for more than one player to play through campaign mode then all the complainees may actually have a leg to stand on, but until that's confirmed, complaints are based almost entirely upon assumptions.

No point in even mentioning RE5 since the same BD game disk can be played with 100 accounts on the same PS3 or 100 accounts on a 100 different PS3s, each with their own game save. The "egregious foul" with Mercenaries is the fact that the game save is on the physical game card itself, meaning it's the same on any 3DS. This is not an issue with optical media.

And there's no point in bringing up the PSV either because there are no games, much less save systems to be evaluated or critiqued. Any assumptions in regards to those have literally no basis in fact.
