I think you are forgetting how much a higher resolution will help the actual gaming in Smash Bros. If you think about the difference HD made to FIFA (I use this comparison, because the camera is also zoomed out a lot in footie games). Fifa on PS2 can't come close to the PS3 versions simply because I can look in the bottem corner of the screen and clearly see what's going on. This enhancement alone will make Smash Bros much more engrossing.
