I do believe this had part to do with the online sales last week for PS3 hardware. As one user has already noted Amazon had a gold box sale selling it at a $50 discount I believe. But what kept it selling well was even after that for most of the week the PS3 consoles were anywhere between $10 off and $30 off normal price. The sale seemed to last all week.
Also they still have a deal where you get a 160gb PS3 console with a copy of Black Ops for $299. So essential black ops for free.
