What has not having a Xbox Live Type system cost Nintendo? It's amazing to me when you look at their current situation. Nothing would be better for them if their online was better. Would people buy more 3rd party games on Wii if their online was better? No because those games would still have been a inferior version compared to the HD consoles. I don't see Black Ops on Wii selling more because Nintendo has a better online system. Even though the game it self use's Activision servers that gives patchs, use voice chat, and friend list. What about Nintendo themselves? The games they have made that use Online would not have sold any more millions of copies. If you can see where your friend currently is. Mario Kart has a online system that allows you to find your friend, play worldwide online, but no voice chat. Still that game has sold over 20 million. So like Nintendo stated they personally don't need to be the best in online. Since they personally are not going to be a company that produce alot of online content. Their will never be a Regular Zelda, 3d Mario or Metroid game that has online modes. So if they create a system that allows Capcom, EA, and Activision. To use their own systems the way they did for Monster Hunter Tri, Tiger Woods, and Black Ops. Those Players of those games will finally have the same experience you can have on the HD consoles. Since the game it self will be better thanks to the new power of the console. Nintendo sees online as a option or mode. Where Sony wants it to become apart of their experience, and Microsoft staying with their roots. If people think Nintendo is going to make thier own version of Home your kidding yourself. Or add online to every game they have in their library it's not going to happen. Nintendo online will do what it needs to do. Make shopping on their online store easier, gives gamers a better way to communicate, send and recieve information from Nintendo plus their partners. People need to realise that Nintendo isn't going after the Hardcore gamer. They are trying to keep their new core gamers. People who have Wiis but bought PS3/and 360s for the 3rd party content they didn't get. Uncharted and Halo fans are not going to drop those games for Wii U. Gamers have have PS3 just to play GTA 4 or a 360 for Mass Effect may do that. So you try to give them at least the same experience they had. |
The main reason which Nintendo said themselves as to why they missed out on many multi platform games is because third parties did not want to work on weaker hardware and port their HD games to the Wii. Most of those multiplats had an online system (I wont name any since most ps3 and xbox games have some form of online use); this means that the Wii missed out on those games and their online. First reason, the Wii was too "weak" in comparison to competitor hardware, and 2nd, even if their hardware was comparable to the competitions', I'm not sure if their online infrastructure would have been any different, resulting in the worst version of the game because of crappy online.
It's not about having a similar Xbox Live system at all. It's about having games that should've had great internet use (LIKE BRAWL) work. Nintendo realized that online connectivity is very important now. Times are changing, and they are trying to change with them, which can be good or bad, how ever you view it.
But please, stop naming the same ole games that people keep on mentioning because those are just a handful of good online Wii games. MH3 was very satisfying, but the lack of downloadable content really hurt that game for me, since I pretty much completed that game completely (getting the best items). I wish there was more... which maybe would've been achieved if there was a better online infrastructure allowing easy downloadable content to be made by [lazy] companies.
