Wii U won't support DVD or Blu-Ray playback... your thoughts?

I don't think  it's dumb at all. By Nintendo's own logic, why even release a console when everyone that's interested in gaming already has one? They should just become a multi-console publisher and be done with it.

With mass production, adding DVD playback would cost them about $3 per console. Adding that feature is surely not going to bankrupt them. If your the type that doesn't care for that feature (because you want your disc drive to last longer etc...), then fine, don't use it. You'll be happy. And for those of us that do want it, well, we'll be happy as well.

1. Sony and Microsoft wants multi centers as consoles because they have other products to offer (i.e. Blue-ray). Nintendo is a gaming only companie. Their priority is new gaming experiences to sell HW and SW.

2. $3 per console? 3 x 10M consoles sold = $30M. That's a lot. Don't think just for one console, think in mass production.
