You really think I don't own a Wii? I have one, and mine can even play DVDs, thanks to Homebrew. And No, I was not in the group of people who said that. Thw Wii didn't need DVD playback, it had no reason to back then. But as far as we can tell, Nintendo wants to catch the hardcore crowd with the WiiU now, and that includes the mediaphiles. The WiiU also had potential to be the media center of the living room, and from the E3 presentation it looked like they planned to do that, but not including DVD or Blu-Ray playback is wasting a lot of sales to me. For the record, I'll probably still buy the WiiU, I can't miss on any Zelda game. :D |

Why should nintendo support a dying format? In the US atleast it appears that streaming is or has become more mainstream than buying DVDs/Bluray. So they would be adding coists for everyone, so a minority can enjoy movies on dying formats. Streaming movies is all that it needs. Adding more cost through dvd or blu ray playback is not what everyone wants. So those who feel the need to watch disc based movies should invest in a disc based player, not a game console. Nintendo is smart in that they realise people are buying their console to play games and media is an added plus. But havbing media playback increase the cost will ost them their core base that cares for games and price. It seemed like it really payed off last gen.
