It's a dumb move considering some people wanted minimalism in their homes. Less is sometimes more.

Who doesn't have a DVD player nowadays? Or five?

That's not the point. What would you prefer?

1.) A DVD Player, Blu-Ray Player, A hifi system and a console,

2.) A system that does all of the above.

Not only does it save space, ressources and money, it also makes it much more comfortable to use the features. You need to install less cables and switching between DVD player function and video game function is much easier.

Nintendo is not a media company. They are a videogame company. Besides, you were probably in the same group of people that said Wii should have DVD playback and didn't buy that either. So why do you care?

You really think I don't own a Wii? I have one, and mine can even play DVDs, thanks to Homebrew. And No, I was not in the group of people who said that. Thw Wii didn't need DVD playback, it had no reason to back then. But as far as we can tell, Nintendo wants to catch the hardcore crowd with the WiiU now, and that includes the mediaphiles. The WiiU also had potential to be the media center of the living room, and from the E3 presentation it looked like they planned to do that, but not including DVD or Blu-Ray playback is wasting a lot of sales to me.

For the record, I'll probably still buy the WiiU, I can't miss on any Zelda game. :D
