So before the Wii U was announced people like pachter said that if Nintendo would release a console now it would be too late as Sony and MS have already released HD consoles.

People seem to have forgotten that a console lifecycle is 5-6 years before the successor to it arrives.

Now Nintendo has revealed the Wii U and people are saying that it is late! Late for what? I ask. Late for HD they say! :P

Your either a noob or your memory before the HD consoles have been whipped out! Seriously!

The Wii is this gen and not last gen as people like to say. Sure it has dated graphics but it still is current gen. The HD consoles are current gen, not next gen as some people keep on saying.

>_<

You would think a person like Pachter would know the history of consoles and how they have been in the past.

Some people compares the Wii U to Dreamcast but I wonder why as there is no resemblance that I see between them. Well except that they both have screens on the controller but beyond that they are vastly different in every way.

The Dreamcast did not released before its predecessor had even completed a full console life cycle which the Wii will have in December this year.

Wii U coming out too soon? WTH since when was a console life more than 5-6 years? Or better yet the Wii U is coming too late!! What!? It is starting the next generation so how can it be late?

Rant over. sanx for reading!

Ever since the Wii came out, I never really considered it to be part of the current generation because it relies on gimmicks rather than actual quality, IMHO. It has always been its own thing providing gamers with a unique enough experience to make it not really fit in with the other consoles. Except for a few exceptions, certainly the games were not up to our current gen's quality standards. I'm sure many of you will disagree with me on this, but just because a game is good, it doesn't mean it is high quality.

"Since when was a console life more than 5-6 years"?...Since this gen actually. If we had to classify whether the Wii U is late or early, I would say definitely on the late side. By the time Sony and Microsoft release their next consoles, like 2-4 yrs from now, the Wii U will be obsolete from a hardware perspective. The Wii U is definitely not starting a new generation. The Wii U is coming out late, but in the long run Nintendo has been successful from pure innovation and so I'm not saying the Wii U won't succeed either.

So let me see here.....you said Wii wasn't part of the 7th gen consoles, and then you end by say Wii U shouldn't be the start of the 8th gen consoles. I think we have ourselves a Nintendo hater. Lolz

No, I'm definitely not a Nintendo hater. I'm just saying that pairing a group into a console generation shouldn't be decided by when they are released, but by what they offer. The only reason we combine generations among multiple products is because they are similar. But IMO, the Wii is not similar enough to warrant it's place in the same generation as the 360 & PS3. But I am in no way saying that is a bad thing, i'm just saying Nintendo sees this also and so the Wii U is coming out on its own time, disregarding their competitors so they are neither early or late.
