I think honestly its the fact that Nintendo Wii is still a hot product for casual consumers. Many consumers who aren't hardcore gamers have probably been waiting for a cheaper price tag to jump on board. I know my mom for example planned on waiting till Wii hit 99$ before buying one. Of course my sister and I bought her one a year ago and she loves the shit out of it. But fact is some casuals just have been waiting for the price tag to go down.
Last generation many gamers waited for GameCube, X-Box and PS2 to reach more reasonable prices. Once consoles reached the 150$ price mark they flew off shelves. Even Nintendo's GameCube which had been dead in the water ended up in third by a very close margin.
Fact is people are cheap and casuals aren't hardcore enough to be driven to buying the console early. They want the console for under 200$ so when the price drops to a reasonable level for them, whammo they go out and buy it!
