Pot is a fine recreational drug like alcohol. I've always been around at least somebody who was smoking pot at some time because my circle of friends often rotates every 3 or 4 years it seems.
Unlike alcohol though it's damn annoying when you don't know anyone at the time who has any. Like you're simply flat out of luck.

Also, future legalization of the drug is not out of question for many of the reasons mentioned. Gov't gets great revenue and people growing on their own is not that practical. The drug can be legally restricted towards certain users depending on age, health, and priory felonies (just like alcohol or other legal drugs), and parents actually have more control over the situation as well.
One reason we are so polarized on this issue is because there are three groups. People who use drugs a lot, people who use them somewhat, and people who don't use at all. The middle group there is the smallest group of all of them by a longshot, so debate is too fierce for progress to be quick. I belong to that middle group and i wish more people did.
