The Nintendo Wii U tablet-style controller will not be sold separately from it new HD console?

Yes, because the direction the industry and Nintendo with it is moving in is a direction where gaming will stagnate, and wither, the alternative direction thatwas what the Wii and DS represented was a direction in which gaming became a true mainstream media.

Its good to see Nintendo fail with the 3DS, and Wii U, as it will likely mean that there is a sea change in the company and the industry sooner, perhaps tossing out the old fools who currently run the place and replacing them with people who actually listen to the market.

What exactly is this direction you advocate, outside of the old pattern the industry followed in the past, with everying being reduced to a single controller that grew more and more complicated with each generation, and with an increased focus on graphics, while the amount of genres decreases until they all become variants on FPS?

If the 3DS and U fail, that means we are back to the OLD controller schemes and a focus on the videogame industry wanting to be more and more like Hollywood, but involving crosshairs.  The industry is now FULL of supposed "experts" like Pachter who supposedly "listen" to the market and keep piling up more and more of the same.  This approach you advocate, gives the world a flood of music games, with studios going under.

You want to know what the market wants?  It wants to be entertained.  And your idea of not bothering to do anything with the interface doesn't help.  Supposedly listening to the market is why EA decided to take out a global conquest mode from Kane's Wrath, because apparently the suits at EA said market research told them "turn-based strategy doesn't fit the demographic of the 360".  Well, in the end Civ: Revolution outsold Kane's Wrath.

Nintendo, at this point and time, is the only ones leading (in the videogame front.  In technology, it is them and Apple mostly).  They at least give people more of what in the end is wanted.  Want to know what the U does?  It gives consumers the ability to allow they kid to still play their system, while they regain control of the living room.  This approach shows FAR more respect for the consumer and the market than Microsoft or Sony, who want people to believe their console is supposed to NEVER be turned off, and let's keep shoving more and more stuff in it.

If you don't like Nintendo, who DO you want?  Do you want Kotick of Activision to launch their own console and start charging a monthly fee to play Modern Warfare online?  I am curious who you think has a clue as to what to do.  Michael Pachter?
