Wow, that information suprised me. No wonder Sony launched the PSP!. So currently Nintendo owns more market share in Japan than Sony has ever held. I wonder what Sonys position in the market today would be if the gamecube was a success.

With the current success of the Wii and the DS, does it look like sony will have over 30% market share over the next 2 years?

Sony Nintendo

  • 1996 35.8% 37.6%
  • 1997 65.1% 23.1%
  • 1998 68.2% 25.5%
  • 1999 62.5% 32.3%
  • 2000 55.0% 39.9%
  • 2001 55.0% 39.9%
  • 2002 59.7% 39%
  • 2003 58.1% 41.9%
  • 2004 59.6% 40.4%
  • 2005 54.7% 45.3%
  • 2006 29.8% 70.2%
  • 2007 23.3% 76.6%

My prediction -"if the Wii-Fit is a success, sonys market share in Japan for 2008 will be under 20%

wii fit will be a success it already is and will continue to,plus SSBB will also help it and then if third parties release more games ninty could end up above 80% like you said

Sorry i should clarify. If the Wii-Fit becomes very popular in Japan and drives new buyers to the wii, Sonys market share in Japan for 2008 will be under 20%. (Wii-Fit is already a huge success)
