I had the same kind of thing happen to me, my Dad's old house was famous amongst my friends for weird going ons (It was a brand new house too, just built)
I was on the internet one night just chatting in a chat room I believe, and I hear this weird scrapping sound on the carpet in the hallway, I dismiss it and continue what I was doing, then I hear it again but this time louder, I start to wonder what it is, about 5 minutes later it happens again but even louder then before, so when I look up to the hallway this white figure much like you described zips past the hallway, I freaked out and my entire body went extremly cold, I had to wake my brother up and get him to stand at his door whilst I shut the computer down and run into bed.
