If you imagine the gaming market as a single dimensional market, where on one side you have "casual" gamers and on the other side you have "core" gamers (a simplistic view of things) in the previous generation you could say that Nintendo focused on the casual end of the spectrum to the mid-point. In this generation I would say Nintendo is focusing on the casual end of the spectrum to the "75%" point.

While most games would see this as a more inclusive system, and being an improvement over the Wii, many of the graphics-whore elitests may see this as a thumb in their eye because it seems like Nintendo decided that they were the only people Nintendo decided to exclude.
