I made a thread suggesting this over a month ago ...
I could be wrong but I suspect that, with the success of add-ons and shells in the previous generation, one of the major updates Nintendo made to the Wiimote was to make it a far better "Brain" to be integrated into stand alone devices. The advantage of this is that Nintendo (and third party publishers) could release very complicated devices that might not be that expensive because a large portion of the compexity could be managed by the Wiimote or the console itself.
