Hey VGC PC lovers,
So these last few days I've been rebuilding an old Pentium 4 PC for my parents sot they can use it for internet, office stuff, and HTPC uses... yesterday, I got 1GB of RAM by two 512mb sticks (Kingston PC3200 ECC RAM), put it in, it got instantly recognized and gave me my desired speedup... however, at stock voltages (no OC), after adding this RAM, my PC can't clear most RAM intensive Prime95 tests, and just hangs within 5 minutes tops (no error or anything, just stops moving and needs hard reset). I can make it last longer if I only use one thread and underclock (from 2800mhz to 2200, ram underclocked appropriately). I can only think of a weakening PSU and the fact that while I was removing the stock fan holder to install an aftermarket fan, I damaged a set of traces that go from two of my RAM slots (got 4). The still works well and cool though... however, hangs after a time on Prime95 or just simple usage. What do you think is to blame?
I've run memtest86 for 2 hours, got no errors at all.
Specs are -
P4 2.8ghz - Prescott core
Abit I7-E mobo
Radeon 4650HD AGP GPU
1.5GB of mixed Ram (dual channel, 3-3-3-8)
400 watt PSU (can't really determine the manufacturer though)
If you need more info, I'll gladly provide it.
