The 3DS isn't performing quite as hideously as people want to make it out to be.

In the start of February 2005 (2 months and 2 weeks after launch), the DS sold around 37,000 a week, while the GBA was selling 70,000 a week.

This week (2 months after launch) the 3DS is selling 32,000 while the DS sold 50,000.

In EMEAA, the DS sold 35,000 2 months after launch, while the 3DS is selling 30,000 2 months after launch.

In Japan, the DS sold 32,000 2 months after launch (in February) while the 3DS is selling 23,000 (in May).

Overall, the 3DS is performing slightly worse than the DS originally did. Which is somewhat poor, obviously, but far from atrocious. Starting out slightly worse than the system that went on to become the best selling video game machine of all time isn't the worst thing that could happen.

And those Mario Kart Wii sales make me very happy.

Just because DS had an abnormal sales curve doesn't mean that 3DS will follow exactly the same one albeit lower. Those trends mean absolutely nothing. Looking at past HW sales from different consoles is almost useless, except when you are looking at seasonality.

Since the 3DS has an higer price, a more sucessful predecessor and bigger competition I don't think expecting it to do better than the DS from the beginning was realistic. And the comparison is actually a good one except for Japan, it also shows that when DS got big games (Nintendogs, Brain Age and Mario Kart mainly) it started selling well, which is what still has to happen for 3DS.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)
