Hence, Final Fantasy XIII became the biggest disappointment this generation. So the firm needs some kind of “redemption” so to speak, and maybe, just maybe, a Final Fantasy VII remake announcement at Sony’s presser will save it.

Because Deus Ex: Human Revolution just don’t have the strength to accomplish such a fit, nor does Tomb Raider.

I really don't see why ff 13 is reviered as one of the biggest dissapointments this gen, it's actually an amazing game, and an amazing final fantasy.

Even though it may be linear it definitely is a great game and doesn't deserve to be bashed on by so many people.

Compared to other final fantasies it doesnt cut it I am afraid. The good reviews were from hype alone. The majority of gamers hated the game.

Those gamers are simply angry from the change of the usual giant world map to a linear westernized game, ff 13 is a great final fantasy, and the good reviews aren't from hype it can't be the story is great, graphics top notch, gameplay great.

Gets me wondering as to really why so much hatred towards ff 13?

Ever stop to think it was because it was just that bad?  When something is really good or really bad, there's usually a consensus. In FFXIII's case I believe the new audience of gamers is what made the opinions of this game so polarizing. You have the new generation of gamers who have absolutely no idea what a good JRPG is (pro xiii), and  gamers who played enough JRPGs to know that FF XIII is not even in the same ballpark with other true RPGs and JRPGs that can't even compete with XIII visuals, but make up for that with a game with good mechanics/systems, exploration, story, and above all: FUN!

Conflicting opinions is usually a good sign that something is not right. That's how wars start :P

Also, the reviews weren't that great. I'm pretty sure, and someone correct me of I'm wrong, that FFXIII has the lowest metacritic score of the FF main franchise.

The lowest, big whoop it has an 83 meta, which is pretty good and it deserves those scores as it's not the best final fantasy out there, but it's in fact a good game which its meta proves.

All in all, 13 doesn't deserve the bashing as it's a great game and a great rpg.

I have got a platinum in this game so I like to think I know the ins and outs of this game more than most people. Compared to final fantasies of old it just doesnt cut it. The battlemechanics are shallow, the storyline was pretentious, the characters were average, no side quests or towns. Yeah the graphics are great but I dont care about the graphics when everything else was pretty average. The amazing thing about the game was, once I completed the storyline and tried to plat the game, it actually became really fun. That is not a good sign unfortunately. I dont understand why people think square enix games are the second coming of christ and that theu can do no wrong. I am an rpg collector and In my collection of over 70 rpgs this would be in the average pile.
