It's common knowlegde that Nintendo purposely priced the 3DS a lot higher than they would have done normally (before this current gen), because they learned their lesson from Wii's launch, when it was sold out for ages and they could've made a ton more money had they priced it higher.
So, Nintendo *could* easily lower 3DS' price and still make a healthy profit. Whether they'll do that remains to be seen, too early to tell now. If sales remain below expectations after more compelling software comes out (stuff like Zelda, Mario Kart, Super Mario, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, whatever) and/or NGP poses a real threat later on, they probably will. For now, no-one knows. Imo if NGP comes out at a competitive pricepoint, Nintendo will lower 3DS' price, no sweat.
