Yes, we do. Not FFXII, that's for sure. |
Agreed.
FF12 is an excellent RPG from a objective point of view, maybe even the best FF in those terms.
But its the subjective parts of a game that is the key. When you love the characters, music, art style, story and so on you see magic created on screen, I got this magic in FF4,6,7,8,9,10,13....unfortunately not in FF12 though as it just didn't deliver to me on the characters, music, story (well on this FF8 was the last FF where I felt I truly experienced an excellent epic story..*inb4 ff8 stoary suxorz ppl*) and at times the combat. Thats all there is to it really, and 4 years after playing it no-ones changing that experience I had.
Its some little things that make me even love a game more, like how in chapter 1 in FF13 when you leave the character idle and see Lightnings face with the camera her expression is stern, angry and serious. In Chapter 11 however (and onwards) as you see leave the characters idle and see Lightnings face its become much more calmer now and sometimes you even get the hints of a smile, these moments combined with the music and general art design truly creates magic....and realising you are becoming happy due to a character seeming happy makes you realize how attached you have become. When you cherish these little little things in games (or movies for that matter) you see the soul of the product and you become attached to it. This all comes through subjectivity for me at least.
So Objectivity is very important, and FF12 is almost perfect there, I really want the team to make FF15. But its the subjectivity of a game that can make me say a game is good to saying I love the game....its subjectivty that can make you see the soul of a game, it can make magic come on screen (or whatever phrase you want to use to describe this feeling I am sure many have had)....and many subjective categories like story, music, characters etc is bound to cause difference in opinions. And this is why you won't have people accepting anything is better than something they love purely for objective reasons, as we're humans, we can't just be objective.
