The gyroscope needed wasn't small and affordable enough in 2006. It wasn't until around 2008. So should can't change couldn't.

How do you read "couldn't" as "never planned to"? That's "wouldn't". There is a difference.

My point was if they went as far as featuring it in the reveal for the controller you can be sure they were seriously considering having it packaged on day one. Or in other words, it probably was small enough to fit, and while still relatively expensive, was obviously affordable enough for them to consider it. You don't introduce a product to your audience without making sure of all those details in advance.
