*facepalm*. I know the formal definition of what on-rails is.
But you don't understand how games have evolved (in a bad way) and restricted the player movement and interactivity to such a minimum that it resembles on-rails. "Linear" is not a too strong word anymore to describe the directed theme park joy-ride that is Uncharted and Call of Duty and most other modern shooters.
In the shooter world Medal of Honor started this phenomenon and Call of Duty refined it.
