Seriously, I have bought (or recieved) every Nintendo console made, well besides the disaster known as Virtual Boy. But this may be the first time I actually opt out of a Nintendo console in favor of a Sony one. The 3DS hasn't done much to impress me in terms of its library as of yet. I was initially excited about the 3D aspects, and was very relieved to hear that you didn't need to spend an arm and a leg, and wear those lame glasses just to watch 3D. But as I've always said, games are what makes the console, and I don't see many for the 3DS that really give me a reason to run out and get one, especially at $250. There is Mario Kart, Zelda, and that's really about it right now, and the latter is basically a port.  I am curiously waiting for the new Mario and Paper Mario games, but that is all I see in the forseeable future that I would even consider buying.

Add this to the fact that the 3D has been said to cause eye strain, and headaches, and these are the last things I need with my already deteriorating eye sight and frequent headaches. Not sure how true these reports are, but I'd rather not take the risk. It's pretty ridiculous that you should run ANY sort of negative risks when playing games, even if the chances stand at like 10%. It's nice that you can turn down or off the 3D, but then, really, what's the point of owning a 3DS over its predecessor? Might as well at least wait until the price drops, and stick with my DS until it does.

The NGP, meanwhile, already has as many, if not more games that I would want, in Uncharted, Call of Duty, LBP, and Monster Hunter. I also would prefer the dual analogue sticks to just one. The 3DS design in general seems clunky and awkward. I don't really like the fact that the top screen is a different size from the bottom, but maybe I'm just OCD :P

I liked the DS because it was sort of doing its own thing. It had games that were designed completely for the handheld experience, and were these great "pick up and play" type of games. But now it seems like Nintendo is trying to be like Sony, and go back to their ways of cinematic, epic games. So I figure, it both handhelds are going to be like this, might as well go for the one with more experience in these type of games.

I'm still taking a wait and see approach, but if NGP launches for cheaper than the 3DS, you can bet I will almost certainly be opting for that platform instead. If it costs more though, I might just sit this gen of handhelds out, at least for several years. There are always those Iphone micro games for really cheap, and there are plenty more DS games I can check out.

Just seems like a weak showing on the handheld front so far, particularly from Nintendo. Anyone else feel this way?

To each his own, just a few comments here.

First no, I don't feel this way . As launches go, the assortment of games is actually pretty good, what may be missing is just what would be perceived an AAA title (maybe not considered AAA, I don't know, but I think it would have been quite beneficial for the launch in the West if there were a Layton game at launch), but personally I don't care, I am the happy owner of a 3DS with Ghost Recon keeping me (very) happy and quite a few games coming up that I will get day 1 (see my sig) plus others that I will get, just not day 1.

Regarding headaches etc, whatever - most those who reported any of the phenomenons and who actually stuck to it also said it went away after a relatvely short while. Personally I have deterioating eye sight, get motion sickness from FPS games real fast (which is why Goldeneye takes me forever), yet have absolutely no issues with the 3DS, and I play hours and hours non stop, usually late at night when my eyes are weakest.

"top screen is a different size from the bottom" - I don't get this, so what? It's not like half of the image is at the top and the second half is at the bottom. This really has no effect I can think of on playing the 3DS.

"But now it seems like Nintendo is trying to be like Sony, and go back to their ways of cinematic, epic games" - in the handheld area? What 3DS games by Nintendo, existing or future, are you basing this on? I completely disagree on this one.
