Doom and gloom would say: Nintendo made a bad move to go after the core market because those are Sony's and Microsofts.
The positive view on this says: Nintendo succeeded at making the Wii a success, they can pull off the new direction with Cafe.
The neutral view will say: Let's wait and see.
Which position is the least honest? Total lol at the core belonging to MS, which is just 2 gens old. Even lol at it belonging to Sony, just 3 gens old. Nintendo owned the whole market about 5 gens ago with the NES. It is totally able to do that again. It's also able to fail. But it's not bound to either, so honestly claims the neutral view.

lol? do you think young teenagers who like COD etc nowadays will even look at the next nintendo console?
nintendo has an image nowadays of 'casual' 'motion controls' 'nintendogs' etc. there's an audience for all that shit, but the core don't want it, and so the core don't go near nintendo at the minute
there's no way that nintendo can both keep their casual market, and then change their image enough to capture the core market. you can quote me on that. for goodness sake nintendo doesn't even have a substantial online service yet.

Tides change quickly in this market, you'll understand that when I quote you 4 years from now. If nintendo even recaptures a portion of that market (which is very likely), you're already wrong.

tides do change very quickly, but never have we seen a 'casual' company turn around and capture the 'core' market in one generation, or vice versa.
i agree that nintendo can take a decent little portion of the core market by releasing early and having titles such as grand theft auto, fifa and call of duty. but they won't take anything substantial out of sony and microsoft's pie - that's what i'm saying.
so, the console can still be very successful, but it'l be no ps2.
