They wouldn't really return as a) the N64 used a different kind of cart, and b) they've been sort of using flash carts with the DS systems already.
And I agree they would have to have a legacy optical drive (guess you missed me discussing it with others earlier in the thread).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
