Even if the PS3 does end up marginally outselling the Xbox 360, which I'm sure it will by the time the generation has come to an end, even the most loyal fanboys have to admit that this generation has been a massive disaster for Sony, and pretty solid success for Microsoft. Microsoft may end up in "third" position, but this doesn't negate the fact that they have essentially swallowed up half of the PS2 userbase in just six years.

Microsoft and Sony will go into the next generation with a comparable mindshare in gamers, something that certainly wasnt the case when the 360 and PS3 were released. The next generation will be very interesting indeed.
