In my opinion, I know NIS focuses on Disgaea, but I think this jump in profits is because they are releasing other games at a better rate (more copies on shelves and advertising).  Disgaea has never shown itself to sell more than 300,000 copies per release.  I mean, games like Atelier are getting close to Disgaea sales.  This sounds more like a collection of all their other games than just one major IP.

I agree, they've had some reasonable successes with the Atelier series and unexpected stuff like Neptune and that's a good portion of why they were profitable last year.  Hopefully they have continued success this year.

Don't know about the advertising, never seen anything beyond maybe a banner ad on VGC, but perhaps that's what you meant.

Some stores had large stands for Atelier and I've seen some posters for Neptune around.  Admittedly not massive advertising, but still more than before (nothing).  Also, I use to knock internet advertising, but it seems to have done very well for games like Atelier, Muramasa and other 'niche' Japanese games.  Its still not as effective as a massive TV advertising campaign, but it does help.
