I think releasing when they did was the right choice, as God of War - being a large, but not giant seller - could be hurt by the immense competition during November and December. Releasing during the holidays is a larger risk, as it's easier to be lost in all the games.

For a game like GoW 3, I think a non-holiday launch is just better. Don't forget that it sold 500k in the holiday season, when that came around. In short, I think GoW 3 was a brilliantly handled release, and that they couldn't have squeezed many more sales out of it.

Oh, and a little thing. GoW 3 isn't the only Ps3 game to sell a million in America in a month, Metal Gear Solid 4 did that too.

I'm sorry but I disagrre with you. The time of launch wasn't that great and it had way too much competion. And belive me God of War 3 was the 4th biggest launch last in the U.S. That makes it giant.

Yes, it has the fourth biggest opening week on the Ps3 in Americas. Which isn't that strange considering it's the most Americas centered game Sony publishes. It's also among the most front-loaded ones.

A title that's heavily front loaded and one-region specific having a nice launch in that region doesn't make it giant.

God of War 3 is a well selling, quality title. If you'd like an analogy, it's Sony's Legend of Zelda. It's mostly Americas centered (although GoW is slightly moreso), front loaded and an important title to the company. But they're not giant titles, there are several far bigger sellers on both systems.

God of War 3 is, overall, the 17th best selling title on the Ps3. It's going to pass Resistance, but it's also going to be surpassed by several future titles. It's likely to end somewhere in the 20s.

The original God of War was the 35th best selling title on the Ps2.

If you're going to adapt a terminology that makes all the top 50 titles best selling games on a system giant, then you're starting to use terminology like video game reviewers.


Okay I was talking about Americas only so don't bring any other region into this discussion. And I was saying it had the 4th biggest launch in America falling behind Call of Duty both versions and Halo Reach.
