the question is: do they really HAVE sex like that?  it's like the hostess clubs, where you (officially) don't do anything but drink in the company of cute girls. i keep wondering if it is simply a cover for prostitution, or if it's really that awkward

 

They often are covers for prostitution. Japanese law makes brothels illegal so you go and drink with the girl and then "tip" her and she meets you afterward for sex that "wasn't" paid for.

Yeah it's pretty much up to the girl, but if she's bitchy enough she'll sleep with you for money. Or perhaps just because she feels like. They're very open, as oposed to most Japanese girls.

Personally, I once started a conversation with a girl who happened to be a hostess and she was flirting pretty openly, and she wasn't even at work. She gave me her phone. That's very rare for Japanese people too, so that basically means she wants sex with you, and she didn't even want money, she wanted to invite me for dinner. So hostesses usually just have that kind of personality.

I didn't do it though coz I had a gf but man, I think Japan is paradise for Westerners because they have a fetish for us.

The way in which you have sex with a Japanese girl is pretty much meeting her once (and if the two of you meet alone that already means something), and then just taking her to your place and start it, or just asking "shall we go to a love hotel?" and that's pretty much it. Up to that moment, no one mentions sex but it is something that's understood.

The Japanese population in general are really open about sex. They just hide it. It is something that everyone knows but no one talks about. You can see it in ads and magazines, though.

My gf's dad is a sports journalist, and he's quite known in Japan. Not famous, but known. The magazine he writes for is half about sports and half porn. And that doesn't detract from him being respected, it's just a natural thing, but people just don't talk about that face to face, they just give it for granted.

Trains in Tokyo have a carriege only for women, because men tend to start touching girls when the train is crowded and no one can see them doing it, and girls will 99% of the times say nothing because they are embarrassed to say anything in public. So they just put a whole carriage for them and people just accept it, but no one talks about the problem, at least in public. In private, everyone knows why they're there.

Also, in general they also have "different" tastes when it comes to sex. They like all this maid, school girl, cat, bunny stuff; and other weird stuff like porn where they pretend to be mum and son or dad and daughter... you know, all this hentai stuff, it's true.
