If Enslaved was made on the Wii at a much lower budget, I think it could have been profitable. Games like that with limited niche appeal shouldn't be given huge budgets to work with. Enslaved was fucking beautiful but what's the point of making a game gorgeous and pretty in glorioius HD if gamers aren't going to buy it? And that's 700k shipped, not sold right? There are lots of copies of this game floating around in the bargain bins for $20 brand new.
I only played until like 2/3 or so into Chapter 2 because I ran into a glitch in the game that wouldn't allow me to pick up and throw Trip. I even tried restarting from the checkpoint and it didn't correct the error. So I just sent the rental back in the mail (that's another thing. A lot of people opted to rent Enslaved instead of buy it because it's a short single-player action-adventure with no real replay value (aside from achievement/trophy hunting I think). I could have bought it at $20 since it's dirt cheap but since I have a rental subscription I might as well use it). Maybe it's because I didn't patch the game (PSN was down so I couldn't download any updates). I wasn't exactly thrilled with Enslaved. Too much puzzle-y type stuff (all that stealthy decoy stuff and what not), not enough smashy. But a game like that has it's niche audience.
