That seems pretty pedantic. I mean, if other Metroids have "set road blocks", Other M has you on a railway track. And I'm not sure anyone claims that Metroid is "total free roaming", what would that be? An open world game? However it's certainly a lot less linear.

People complain Fusion and Other M are too linear al lthe time.  Heck, Ive heard dozens of people claim Zero Mission and Metroid II are as well.  In the end, people just complain about any Metroid except Super and Prime.
