Not really.  Starfox (Starwing in Europe) was released for the SNES.  Nintendo planned and actually made a sequel, which is mentioned in the op, but was cancelled just before release.  Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars in Europe) is a remake (I think, but I'm not sure) of the SNES original, but contains many of the new features that Starfox 2 was going to introduce such as Starwolf.

 

I'm still hoping Nintendo add it as a unlockable bonus one day in a Starfox game.

I played both... StarFox SNES and (the best) StarFox 64... it was planned as a remake but used many features planned to StarFox 2 which ended up being a totally different (and better) game.

I can't say it a remake because even the levels are differents.

I really want a new StarFox for Wii/Wii 2.
