Up to this point in 2010:

but on the flip side, ps3 had sold more going into 2010 than 360 because of slim price cut effect, now 360 going into 2011 coming off slim price cut kinect and its 500k behind. which makes ps3 more impressive.

that tells me up to a certain point more people will buy ps3`s than 360`s, its entirely sonys fault that they are in 3rd had they launched at 299 like im sure thier next console will it would have been enormous

Oh and how many times are you going to say the bolded... you know its bull yet you still say it.  Its mythical... it would be impossible to have launched the PS3 as we know it at $299, they took a major, major loss launching at the massive price they did for god sake. 

I may aswell say imagine if the 360 had launc(h)ed at $99... wow... some sales huh?  

i dont even think it needed 299 at launch 399 could of saw similar impact

i think SONY selling more than MS WW has always been know and will continue this way unless you have the rare circumstances as you said of prices when sony was $200 more than MS

i also believe that another rare circumstance this gen besides the big price differences was that MS was the 1st out with a > 480P gaming console in 05-06, i believe that consumers saw this as a huge thing in gaming around 2004-2007 the whole new LCD tv this was big aswell and what better way to test your new tv than with a HD gaming console and for about 1- 2 yrs MSs 360 was the only way to do this.

another rare circumstance also is alot of ps2 owners werent afraid to make the switch to a MS console b/c alot of there favorite multi plat exclusives from the ps2 era made there way to the MS console early on in the gen

i dont believe next gen will have this impact the consoles will still be HD it wont be a big of a jump as ps2 to 360 was, especially on a HD tv where the ps2 isnt meant to be played on for the best graphics and there really wont be any big variables with mult plat exclusives we kind have a good idea where things are going to end up

 

also i dont believe sony will a launch a 299 console next gen 399 or 450 maybe
