You should go for it! What's the point of spending all that time getting something not to use it eh?
And after Conduit 2, there isn't much which interests me on the Wii for the future, well, up to June, at least. So now is a perfect time to play this great game, and heck, you're still in the OP, after all...
Also- USing a lance for Rathalos is probably where you're failing anyway 
Though when I started after a few months away, first thing I did was die, on an easy quest. So it does take some getting used to!
