Is that this security breach was a server-side flaw. "Hacking" a PS3 shouldn't give anyone access to critical PSN information any more than hacking a computer or install of Firefox would give you access to Amazon's customer database.

The tools to defend against this type of attack have been available for years. I can build a secure e-commerce store in a matter of hours and get it locked down to prevent this type of information breach using off-the-shelf software. Why can't Sony do the same on their PROPRIETARY system?

No matter whether you think Sony was in the right over the Geohotz fiasco, they royally screwed the pooch on this one.

And that is no one's fault but their own. They deserve every bit of bad press they're going to get over this.

This is all true, but try explaining that to the fanboys. One's favourite corporation can do no wrong, so scapegoats have to be found and messengers need to be shot. Clearly, everything bad that happens to Sony or everything bad that Sony does is the fault of TEH PIRATES, RRRRAAAGGGGEEE! Sony are absolved from all responsibility for their actions or lack thereof.

Over the years on VGC, I've learned not to say things that "don't contribute to the thread" or are "flaming" but....

Do everyone a favor and stfu. You've probably been waiting for some time to make that statement, and once something finally happened, you pounced. People's credit card info has possibly been stolen. Other personal information *has* been stolen. Quit with the retarded fanboy wars. It's childish, and the scope of what has happened goes beyond "well my console has better graphics"
