anywho, a very interesting idea. i have heard something along the same lines elsewhere. i have also read read another persons theory(which was linked on this sight, but i cant find it now). He envisioned a controller with only 2 analog sticks, shoulder buttons, and maybe triggers. he said the whole front(besides the sticks) would be a touch screen designed to allow devs to make their own controller layouts and buttons right on the touch screen. nintendo and devs could even allow the consumer to make their own controller schemes. this screen would also be used for quick minigames(lock picking, hacking, small puzzle, ect.).
i added some to the original idea. interesting? too expensive?.....btw, i love that mock up. little to big though.
