Nintendo - wii 2 confirmed - View Post

NES and SNES had the Japanese support pretty much locked, but the West always was resistant and as soon as the Genesis showed up as viable alternative, they gravitated towards that.

The DS only had all the games for a while. After Monster Hunter became a hit in Japan (about three years ago), third parties immediately started to go back to the PSP again. That's why the PSP surged in the past two years while the DS kept declining. If you followed portable gaming, you would have noticed that the PSP release schedule got stronger in the last couple of years and in terms of big third party releases easily surpassed the DS. That's why today you have the PSP taking a position like the PS2 in Japan, because it's the best supported system by Japanese developers.

Sorry mate but that is not true, as someone who has been gaming since the 80s I can come out and say that he is right, western devs didn't like Nintendo but were still forced to develop for them even with an alternative in Sega simply because Nintendo's position was far too strong as many devs went under not developing for the NES, it was so strong that Yamauchi even forced developers to focus on the NES instead of the Master System, this was the reason Sega developed many first party titles to fill the huge void that left . The wasn't really a game you couldn't get on the NES, SNES so saying that the main publishers didn't support them is rubbish as in the end their games were on the platform after seeing everyone who stayed defiant go under.
