It's complicated, I would say Sony more than Microsoft simply because a PS3 with Move would be roughly equivalent to an NES 6 with Wiimotes except the latter would have more performance and a few gameplay opportunities not present on the Sony system which is further compounded by Nitendo's total dominance of the wand market, 8M vs 150M or more? Kinect on the other hand would be in a similar boat hower it would still retain some unique features not seen in either the PS3 or NES 6 or Wii. Im not really trying to disagree with you, im just trying to make more point clearer as to why I originally stated it as I did. |
I think we agree. I just see Kinects unique features as more of a headache for MS than an opportunity. Nintendo didn't botch any of it core games with motion. Zelda, Mario Kart, even 2D Mario forced MC with no ill effect. I don't think MS can do the same to Gears, Fable, Forza and Halo and I don't see 3rd parties risking their IPs either. Does MS want Kinect spinoffs like the Wii got? Dead Space Kinectration?
MS appears invested in Kinect far more than Sony's 'patch Move controls' approach and that's where I see MS' problem. If they are developing core (read expensive) Kinect games from the ground up then they have less resources for non-Kinect games, moneyhatting exclusives/DLC, timed or otherwise. It's not even the $ that's so important, it's more development time and the ability to quickly change direction.
Interesting times. MS or Sony are going to have to jump before 2014, Nintendo will be announcing NES 7 in 2016.
