Whether Mark Rein is arrogant or not, it's up to 3rd party publishers to develop UE3 titles for the 3DS or not if it indeed can handle it. What he says doesn't matter, because Epic only develops less than 5% of all UE3 games released. If developers get the dev kits and realize Unreal Engine 4 is more than capable on it, why would they turn down utilizing the tech, because they're loyal to Mark Rein and Epic? The bottom line is, if Nintendo makes their next console easily portable from PC developed software, the third party support will show up. Let's not forget the only reason Nintendo lost it to begin with was because they tried to limit third parties in one way or another. Secondly what is viper1's credentials in regards to this? Is this person a developer that worked on UE3 and the Wii and saw it to be possible? How much of the engine could the Wii handle according to him? |
Because third parties are lazy, and if Epic refuses to provide the support for the platform on their end with the engine, it'll end up much like Wii again, with one Unreal-based game adapted by a third party itself.
This will be a fascinating study into the depths of Epic's bias, really. If Epic decides not to, then it will become impossible to easily port many PS360 games over, and they could singlehandedly ban third-party parity
