I was never really bugged by over-simplification. As long as it retains the feel of previous Deus Ex titles (which judging from most of the footage - it does), I'm happy.

Which previous title? The godly one or the bucket of shit? Because the last gameplay they showed really reminded me of the latter.

OT: GOod to hear about the highlighting. I don't know why it's even being put in place, but I guess with stupid people playing games now they need all the help they can get. Now if they can remove that retarded cover system and regenerating health (add it in as an augmentation like the first one, and if you remember it was too slow to be too useful in fights themselves). all will be back on track.

Sigh. Why can't someone just make a pre-2001 shooter with better physics and graphics?

The FPS genre has been completely fucked by consoles. Now everything is geared for the lowest common denominator, which appears to be a mentally stilted 9 year old with a caffeine addition.

Challenge us, developers. Please. No more regen health, arrows pointing toward our goal, unlimited weapon/ammunition, highlighted "use" objects, or any of that nonsense. Make the game HARD, for fuck's sake. And no, I don't just mean make every enemy take 45 rounds to drop. That's not fun, either. Shooters should be a healthy blend of talent and smarts. That's why they became popular in the first place and why multi-player games have dominated the genre. The more you dumb down the game, the more people will chase after a human opponent, the only thing left that challenges them.

Agreed. I remember fuming and being pissed that Painkiller had a compass that kind of pointed towards where the objective is, and that was about it. Man if I had known what would come I would have been glad it was just a compass.

Edit: Also what the hell happ[ened to phsyics and jumping puzzles? Most were absolutely horrendous to do but some wehre super cool. I remember trying all sorts of crazy things in some games (last one was HL2.....) because I'd get lost and have no idea what the hell I had to do. More often than not I would end up bugging the map than finding the right way, but I still made it through. I can't think of a single game with something like this right now. I guess developers are afraid their customers are too fucking stupid to actually pass any of those puzzles.

Edit 2: I guess they have been replaced with scripting to hold the player's hand and make sure the poor guy doesn't get lost. I was watching the full Battlefield 3 gameplay trailer earlier, and it looked absolutely horrendous. The best part of the trailer (15 mins) were the last 20 seconds where there were intermitten flashes of multiplayer.
